About Playwise
Who is Playwise?
Playwise is a New Zealand Registered Private Company that started in 2021. Playwise currently operates exclusively in New Zealand, selling kids activity boxes that contain age appropriate toys, activities and books.
Are Playwise products safe for my child?
All toys and activities are sourced through reputable suppliers, who only sell toys and products that meet the safety standards required by New Zealand legislation. These toys and activities are not however safe for children under the age of 3 years, as they contain small parts that represent a choking hazard. Therefore, please make sure that children below the age of 3 years do not have access to the contents of a Playwise activity box.
How does Playwise select the toys and activities for each box?
The contents of each box is chosen with great care and includes consideration for the child’s age group and associated abilities as well as their developmental trajectory. On-screen interests or popular themes are also a factor, as this can also help to generate excitement and encourage play. Playwise also chooses play experiences that help create feelings of pleasure/reward, so that a child learns to experience pleasurable play away from a screen and in a non-addictive way.
What is the average length of time that my a child is likely to play with the box?
On average there are 6-8 activities in each box, which are designed to keep children independently engaged and captivated for approximately 45minutes at a time. All children are however different and so the total time a child spends playing with a Playwise box can vary. You may also find though, that the more a child plays with the box, the better he/she gets at engaging with the activities and so they play for longer and longer after each consecutive exposure to Playwise activities.
Why do you recommend reserving the box for after screen time?
One of the most difficult times in a household can be when children stop playing on their electronic devices. This is because children can experience behavioural issues, as they struggle to let go of the feelings of pleasure and reward that they experience while using a device. By giving a child a Playwise subscription box to play with directly after screen time, a child has a suitable alternative activity, which has been carefully selected to also provide a feeling of pleasure/reward, albeit at more appropriate levels. It is envisioned, that in this way behavioural issues can be avoided or minimised in a happy and developmentally sound way.
Why do you recommend packing up the box at the end of each play session?
A play experience that creates a feeling of scarcity around access to the experience, like when parents limit screen time, is likely to leave the child with the message that the activity is to be highly prized and helps to maintain ongoing interest in the activity. For this reason, we do not recommend leaving the box with the child indefinitely.
Can my child select the toys for his/her Playwise box?
No. All products included in a subscription box are carefully chosen to ensure maximal fun, excitement and independence for a specific age group. For this reason, children cannot choose what will be in their Playwise activity box.
How much parental involvement is needed to ensure my child gets the most out of their Playtime subscription?
All activities have been carefully chosen to ensure they closely match the capabilities of the age group in question. As such, little to no parental involvement should be required to enable a child to complete an activity or to be able to play with a toy. Year 1 children may need slightly more assistance from a parent if they cannot yet read an instruction, but again these instructions have been kept to a minimum. Lastly, a child’s independence in doing activities, does not negate the need for normal/general supervision of a child during play. Rather, it just minimizes the amount of hands on involvement a parent would have during playtime.
What type of toys or activities can I expect in a Playwise box?
The box will include age appropriate branded and non-branded toys/books that follow on-line and offline trends. The content may range from various sorts of puzzles and activity books, to fidgets and outdoor activities, with a preference for sensory play experiences. Our themed educational boxes contain a variety of educational toys and STEM related activites.
Does Playwise include STEM or educational toys/products in their activity boxes?
Yes, educational toys are included in our BIG Gift Box range, as they tend to have the qualities that Playwise looks for in a good quality, captivating and engaging toy. Our themed educational boxes have the most educational toys. Only certain types of STEM toys are included, as some activities require parental supervision and therefore do not allow children to engage independently in the playtime experience.

Shipping, Returns and Exchanges, Cancellations, Gift Subscriptions
How soon after I have signed up, can I expect the first box to arrive via courier?
Boxes are shipped within 72 hours of the order being accepted. Transit times vary between different courier companies, but should arrive within 2-3 working days. We do not offer overnight shipping and delays can occur on account of COVID-19 disruptions.
How much does shipping cost?
There is no additional cost for local shipping. Playwise offers free shipping nationwide. Shipping internationally will however, incur shipping costs. Contact us for a quote in this regard.
Where do you ship to?
Playwise ships products nationally within New Zealand and internationally on a case-by-case basis. Contact us for a quote in this regard.
Can I give a Playwise subscription as a gift?
Yes. You are able to purchase a gift subscription by ticking the gift tick box at checkout. Gift subscriptions are available for the 3, 6, and 12 month subscription types and gift certificates can be downloaded and printed.
How do I add a gift message?
Tick the tick box at checkout to indicate that the subscription is a gift, and a printable gift certificate will be emailed to you, where you can add your own personalised message.
What is your policy around shipping, returns or exchanges?
All payments are non-refundable. However, if any of the toys, games or activities purchased via a subscription or gift box are found to be faulty, then simply return the box in its entirety, in its original condition, including all packaging and Playwise will replace these goods free of charge. We will also fund the shipping associated with a return.
Purchasing and Accounts
What payment methods do you offer?
You are able to pay for a subscription using a VISA or MasterCard. This can be either a debit or a credit card. We do not offer EFTPOS.
COVID-19 Safety of our products and our employees?
All employees are fully vaccinated. We make use of door-to-door courier services to ensure contactless pick-up and delivery of our subscription boxes. Playwise follows the Ministry of Health’s public health guidance on good hygiene and cleaning practices and works within the governments COVID-19 protection framework.
How do I update my delivery address?
To update your delivery address, log into your account on the website and update your address details under your profile.

Playwise cares about its customers. If you have a complaint or concern about our products or service levels, please contact us directly, so we can investigate the matter for you and help to resolve the issue. You can do this via our contact us page.
What steps have you taken to make sure my payment details are secure?
To keep your payment details as well as all your personal details safe, Playwise makes use of a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate (the lock you see next to the web address). In addition, your credit card details are not held/stored by Playwise, but instead, for recurrent payments, we use the tokenization feature of our secure Payment gateway. This gateway is also Protecting Card Information (PCI) compliant.
