We are always being asked for more details about what you actually get in a Playwise Subscription box. It’s perhaps the hardest question for us to answer. And here’s why.
#1 Staying on trend.
We don’t pre-order boxes of toys and then keep them in a large warehouse – from a volume purchasing perspective it would be great if we did, as we could get much better volume discounts from our suppliers! We actually source all our contents no more than about 3 months in advance of using them.
This is so that we stay on trend with what films and video games are coming out, and what the kids are talking about in the playground.
#2 Selection criteria
When looking for content, we have a strict set of selection criteria that we apply to our decision-making.
Does this item deliver playability? That means that a child will play with it on numerous occasions even if that is only for a limited time. It is what separates us from some of our competitors who deliver craft projects but once they’re done, then they’re done. They hold little longer term interest.
Does it deliver a sensory experience for the child? Just because something carries a big brand name doesn’t always mean that it delivers an engaging, immersive experience. We look for content that appeals at a sensory level, regardless of brand.
#3 Research
We spend months researching trends and talking to toy companies. We then review the products we find against our own criteria before then trialing them, with some relevant aged kids in our research group. Only when they pass these tests do we then talk to the toy company and negotiate on your behalf to get good pricing. Only after all this do they finally make it into a Playwise Subscription Box.
What you can expect from a Playwise Subscription Box
An ever changing selection of toys, puzzles, games and books. You will never have the same toy twice in a 12 month subscription and only very rarely will you see the same toy more than once in a repeated subscription of more than 12 months. And that’s only because the item was so so popular we decided to include it again!
So as an example, this is what might appear in a Playwise box depending on the age of a child.
Fidget-type gadgets, where the child can improve their skills through repeated use and gain a sensory, and or rewarding experience for their efforts.
Fun toys, which stir the imagination and keep them interested and engaged for longer. These can sometimes be branded toys that follow on line themes to ensure hype and excitement.
Toys that encourage laughter and that allows them to share their experiences if they want to with their parents or siblings.
Puzzles, as they tick the box in so many ways. They stimulate a child’s development, give pleasurable and sensory input to a child’s brain and are often trendy and engaging. Puzzles can also be done over and over again, achieving refinement of skill and while still providing just as much fun!
We may also include books, which contain age appropriate games and puzzles to be completed on the page – interactive books that the child can write in and complete, without too much effort required.
Remember
Unlike many of our competitors, a Playwise Subscription Box is designed to be played with by your child, independently. For instance, after delving into the box, they should never then need an adult to help them play with the contents or to complete a puzzle.
This is because we understand that parents are busy. Not everyone has hours to spend helping their children with play. We also understand that it is healthy for children to develop the skill of independent play.
Parting Shots
Although you may not know the exact contents of a Playwise box before you buy it, trust in the process. Playwise is your trusted partner for creating healthy technology down-time for your child and we have done all the leg-work, so you don’t have to.
Rest assured that what goes into the box is of good quality, is safe for your child, and worth having, even if there may be some aspects that are not entirely novel. Remember Playwise is not aiming to reinvent the toy industry, but to rather look at what’s out there, and provide an opportunity for your child to experience the best the industry has to offer in terms of screen-free, parent-free fun.
