Each box contains a mix of activities designed to keep a year 5 or 6 child stimulated and engaged for longer.
To captivate their interests, each box will include well-known online and off-line themes and trends that your child can get excited about!
Children in this age group generally have an attention span of between 27-33 minutes and one can really leverage this together with their mastery of basic literacy and reading, when deciding what activities to engage them in. For this reason, in the Year 5-6 box you will find more opportunities for educational play than in the boxes for younger age groups. To introduce the fun side of learning there are educational activity box sets, and books around topics such as Planet Earth.
In the current gift box, you can look forward to quality and well known brands such as Minecraft & Prof Noggins.
However, there are also less expensive non-branded items in the box, such as fidget worms, bubbles and hand-held labyrinths/mazes. These items are essential in providing either a sensory experience or to create a quick win, both of which are needed to maintain a child’s interest for longer, as they stimulate feelings of pleasure and reward.
Here at Playwise, we also recognise that no two children are the same and sometimes they colour outside the lines! We know that some like to sit and immerse themselves in play and complete an activity from start to finish, while others like to dabble or tinker with multiple toys and activities and complete a project over multiple sessions. For this reason you can select either the ORANGE box, for the tinkerer, or the BLUE box for the child with a single minded focus, allowing YOU the opportunity to further optimize how your child grows and develops through play!

The Year 5 & 6 ORANGE Box is ideally designed for the child who prefers to dabble or tinker with toys and activities, rather than become engrossed in a single activity or toy for a lengthy period of time.
Some children dabble as a function of their personality and or due to a love of tinkering. Other children, who perhaps become easily distracted or battle with sustained concentration also tend to be dabblers, as do children who are used to the instant gratification that screen-time provides. Regardless of the reason for a child’s dabbling, the ORANGE box is designed to suit.
If your child is not a dabbler but prefers to adopt a single minded focus in activities or play, he/she would be better suited to our BLUE box requiring sustained engagement/attention.
So in a nutshell, the ORANGE Box is all about dabbling or tinkering, which has a bigger focus on sensory play and the BLUE box is all about sustained play. So choose the box that best fits your child’s play preferences, which may also change over time.
If you select the ORANGE Box, you will generally find activities that have more sensory components and quick wins to sustain interest rather than lengthy activities that take time. However, there is definitely some overlap between the two boxes, as interests tend to be similar and every child can benefit from some form of sensory play!

The Year 5 & 6 BLUE Box is ideally designed for children of this age group who have a single-minded focus. They are children who enjoy conventional play and can generally complete an off-screen activity from start to finish, without losing too much interest or becoming easily bored, frustrated or distracted.
Children who are easily distracted/frustrated are better suited to our ORANGE box, as are children, who just by their very nature prefer to dabble with toys and activities or prefer to complete tasks over multiple sessions.
So in a nutshell, the BLUE box is all about sustained play, while the ORANGE Box is all about dabbling or tinkering, which has a bigger focus on sensory play. So choose the box that best fits your child’s play preferences, which may also change over time.
If you select the BLUE Box, you will generally find activities that take a little longer to complete than in the ORANGE Box. However, there is definitely some overlap between the two boxes, as interests tend to be similar and every child can benefit from some form of sensory play!
